RIP MCA OF THE BEASTIE BOYS

Every morning I wake up & grab my phone to see whats going on in the world. Today, one of the first tweets I read was from Global Grind announcing that Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys was dead at the age of 47.

He was a true legend in Hip-Hop & a huge influence to me. For those who know my history, my old group got its name from a Beastie Boys lyric so you already know the connection that I had with the group.

To be honest though, growing up I was not the biggest fan of their early albums. Once Hello Nasty was released, I began to go back & recognize their genius. Their music broke down color walls & is enjoyed by people of all walks of life, which is the way I think it should be.

I don’t usually post Edits on SoundCloud, but with the unfortunate passing of MCA I wanted to share one I did to give the DJs something to show respect for the man. I made this Edit last month before I opened for Pete Rock. It is probably my favorite Beastie Boys song:

NEW MASHUP EP DROPPING MAY 8th

For those of you who liked how I flipped the Gotye vocals over the Lollipop beat, be on the lookout for my new mashup EP Trap Pop. That song, in addition to 5 new ones + Clean Versions, will be available on Tuesday, May 8, 2012! Shout out to my bro Patrice McBride for coming up with the title!

All the songs were originally uptempo pop tracks which I crunked up over some of my favorite Dirty South instrumentals! These Remixes give each song a totally new feel & will allow DJs to work them into their sets in different ways. In case you missed it, here’s the 1st single from the EP:
